What can you expect from a school visit?
Visiting kids in the classroom is by far my favourite part of being a children’s author. My aim is always to leave children feeling inspired to unplug and go on an adventure (whether in a book or on their own two feet)… and maybe even set out to discover a story of their own to tell.
Though I am currently (as of August 2019) located in Athens, Georgia (USA), I have visited schools all around the world and make frequent visits to the UK, so don’t hesitate to query even if your school is geographically distant!
A typical 1-hour school visit session includes:
- 30-minute presentation about what it means to be an author + my top tips for aspiring authors (that anyone can try)
- Interactive story-making workshop: the “What if…?” game (this one is a crowd favourite!)
- Q&A time
- Book signing
*If I have visited your school previously, ask about my special Book 2 session: The Serpent Stone Experience. The session highlights how I go about researching hands-on for the books and invites students back in time with Katie Watson to experience a live Cherokee Stomp Dance.
*Detective Training event also available for smaller groups or parties
